About CityBusinessFinder
CityBusinessFinder is a free directory of local businesses. We help people find a good locksmith, salon or hospital nearby and get in touch directly. There are no ads, no sponsored listings, no paid plans and no pay-to-rank. Not now, not later.
How rankings work
A plain average rewards luck: one 5-star review would beat hundreds of 4.7s. Instead we use a Bayesian average, which treats every business as if it started with 10 reviews at 3.5★, then lets real reviews pull it up or down.
score = (reviews × rating + 10 × 3.5) ÷ (reviews + 10)
- 4.7★ from 300 reviews scores 4.66
- 5.0★ from 2 reviews scores 3.75
The more reviews a business has, the more its own rating counts. Businesses with no rating yet appear last. Claiming a listing doesn’t change its position, and nobody can pay to move up.
To keep pages useful, we only publish a “best of” page for a city when it has at least 5 businesses in that category, and a neighbourhood page when it has at least 3.
Content guidelines
Write about your own experience
Reviews should describe a real visit, purchase or service you received.
Be honest and fair
Praise what went well and explain what didn’t. Factual and specific beats angry.
No conflicts of interest
Don’t review your own business, your employer or a competitor, and don’t accept anything in exchange for a review.
Keep it respectful
No hate speech, harassment, threats or profanity aimed at people.
Protect privacy
Don’t post phone numbers, addresses or other personal details of staff or other customers.
Stay on topic
Reviews are about the business, not politics, rumours or unrelated events.
We check reviews before publishing and remove ones that break these rules.
